Ivan Leon Poeschl

Ivan Leon Poeschl, 87, of Lincoln passed away on April 27, 2016. Ivan was born February 10, 1929 to Louis and Edith Poeschl in West Point, Nebraska. Ivan graduated from Lyons High School in 1946.

On June 17, 1951, Ivan married Virginia Shemat at the Presbyterian Church in Bancroft, Nebraska. Shortly after their wedding, Ivan was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He spent 18 months in Korea serving his nation. Ivan retired from Valmont Industries in 1992 after 30 years of service. In 1994, Ivan and Virginia moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, returning to Nebraska in 2013. He was a member of the American Legion, serving 48 years in Fremont, Bella Vista, and Lincoln. He was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Fremont and Bella Vista. Ivan also served his community for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Fremont Fire Department.

Ivan is survived by his wife of 64 years (just seven weeks short of their 65th anniversary), Virginia, sons Rod (Laurie) Greeley, Colorado, Randy (Cindy), Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Rick (Jackie) Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Grandchildren Lindsey (Adam) Benson and Nikki (Junior) Barrios, both of Greeley, Colorado, Emily Poeschl and Dr. Jessica (Poeschl) Stange, both of Omaha, and Kelcie, Ben, and Dan Poeschl, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Great grandchildren Wyatt, McKenna, and Tyler Benson, and Braden Barrios all of Greeley, Colorado. Also born within one hour of Ivan’s death was the newest addition to the family, great granddaughter Brynn Leigh Barrios. Ivan is also survived by his brother Ronnie (Verion) of West Point, and many nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dennis and Adrian, and sisters Lavah, Vernell, and LaVonnie.

Ivan loved being with his family and many friends, too many to count. He loved playing (and most often winning at) cards.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

“Do not grieve for me, twas heaven here on earth with my wonderful family!”
