Gordon W. Shupe II

November 16, 1948 - June 24, 2019

Gordon W. Shupe II

Gordon (Sonny, Gordy) W. Shupe II, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 24th, 2019, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born November 16, 1948, to Gordon and Zelda (Webster) Shupe. Gordon was born and raised in Wayne, Nebraska graduating from Wayne High School in 1967. After high school Gordon attended Wayne State College before joining the Marine Crops in 1969 where he was deployed to Okinawa during the Vietnam War while in the service.

After returning home from the service, Gordon moved to Lincoln and started working for the Department of Revenue, followed by the National Bank of Commerce for 19 years, before retiring from Diebold. After his retirement, he worked part time at Pinnacle Bank Arena as he enjoyed music, the Blues and Rock and Roll being his favorites, and saw it as a way to be able to enjoy some of his favorite artists live.

Gordon loved his family unconditionally and was dedicated family man. He was a great storyteller, jokester, protector, a strong man, who played hard and had fun. He loved to teach his grandchildren about nature, weather, and science. Gordon loved the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, and especially loved his trips to Milford Lake in Kansas with his buddies Travis and Kenny. He was an active member of AA and most recently served as a mentor to others. He was quick to make new friends, those who knew and loved Gordon will always remember his cheerful disposition, ability to talk for hours on any subject, and his big smile often followed by an even bigger, contagious belly laugh.

Gordon is survived by his son Shawn Durbin; daughters Tara (Chris) Minardi, Angie (Ben) Duval and Jennifer (Tyler) Morrison; grandchildren Cory (Hannah), Kevin, Kailee and, Carter Durbin, Lena Minardi, Stella, Sylvie, Jett and Bode Duval, Kate, Lauren and Julia Morrison; former wife Becky Shupe; nieces and nephews.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Gordon touched are invited to attend his celebration of life service on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (SW corner of 40th & Yankee Hill Rd).

Memorials to the family for future designation.
