Gaye Ann Tomlinson

May 6, 1946 - May 21, 2022

Gaye Ann Tomlinson of Lincoln passed away on May 21, 2022. She was born on May 6, 1946 in Lincoln to Howard and Mary Ellen (Powell) Gotfredson.

Gaye was an elementary school teacher and was always an active member of the church. Later in life she completed a three-year program to become a lay minister. She was passionate about church ministry, especially serving communion. She also loved music and theater and served as board member for the Lied Center of Performing Arts.
Gaye enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. She was fond of traveling through the English countryside and throughout Europe, but was particularly loved tropical beach destinations. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed exploring her ancestry, hiking in Arizona, and, of course, Nebraska football games. She loved animals of all kinds, but especially cats. Gaye was longtime supporter of animal shelters and rescue missions.

Gaye is survived by her son, Jeff Amack, her daughter-in-law Kristi (Van Horn) Amack, her grandchildren Amelia Jane and Ruby Ellen, and other family members and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband John David Tomlinson and her parents.

A Celebration of Gaye’s Life will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street in Lincoln. Pastor Michael Ryan will be officiating. All are invited to a luncheon immediately after the service. Her ashes will then be interred at the columbarium at First-Plymouth Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Capital Humane Society of Lincoln.

We had the privilege of meeting Gaye Ann in 2015 when we purchased the house she had built on Norris Lane. What a wonderful home it has been for us, and of course what a wonderful lady. When we first met – checking out the house when it was for sale – we discovered we knew each other through some chapel services I had done. We continued to have conversations over the years, especially when she returned to Lincoln. It was always good and encouraging talking with her. God’s peace as you mourn.
