Sherrill was born in Columbus, Illinois to Eldren and Eleanor Echternkamp. He grew up farming. He enjoyed 4-H and FFA. He graduated from Southern Illinois Univ, Ohio State Univ and Cornell Univ. He became a physiologist for the USDA. He dedicated 40 years to cattle reproduction research at Roman L Hruska Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska. He and his wife Lynn raised their children Renee and Eldren in Clay Center. He was actively involved in the Zion Lutheran Church. He volunteered his time to Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America, and South Central Behavior Services. He was a volunteer EMT for forty’ years. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring antique and vintage Fords. He was actively involved in several car clubs including Cornhusker V-8 club.
Sherrill and his wife Lynn were married 51 years. They moved to Lincoln area in 2005. They were active in Sheridan Lutheran Church where Sherrill enjoyed singing in the choir and service trips to Tanzania.
Sherrill is survived by his wife Lynn; his son Eldren who lives in Hickman, Ne with his wife Elizabeth and their children Kennedy, Ethan and Keagan; and his daughter Renee who lives in Deer Park, Wa with her husband Ty and their children Lake and Kylan. Sherrill stated he was looking forward to reuniting with his parents and friends in Heaven.
Services will be held August 15 at 10am at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Rd, Lincoln, Ne. He will be laid to rest in Clay Center cemetery at 2pm.
Memorials may be given to Down Syndrome Association of Nebraska.
