Douglas Lee Allard

October 23, 1950 - October 18, 2022

Douglas Lee Allard passed away on October 18, 2022 in Lincoln, NE. He was born October 23, 1950 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Vernon and Elnora (Jo) (Strawder) Allard.

Growing up in Holdrege he enjoyed playing all sports. He was a member of the 1967 Class B State Basketball Championship team. Also, the ’67 and ’68 Class B State Golf Championship teams. After graduating from Holdrege High School in 1968, he went on to receive his BS degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska. His advanced studies included a MS degree in engineering and his Ph.D in Wood Science and Technology from CSU in Ft. Collins, CO. He was then hired by the University of California at Berkeley as an Assistant Professor of Wood Technology.

In the spring of 1974, he married the love of his life, Barbara Brittain of Beatrice, Nebraska. Their life together took them to homes in Colorado, California and back to Lincoln in 1990.

Upon returning to Lincoln, he worked for HWS Consulting Group until his retirement in 2006. Throughout his life he had a curiosity and interest in many areas. They included wood sciences, forensic engineering, carpentry, wood working, computer technology, literature, music, sports and painting.

Doug is survived by his wife, Barbara, and his two sisters, Rita Allard of Lincoln and Mitzi Meyer and husband Dana, of Campbell, NE along with one niece, Sydney Tipton and husband, Alex; one nephew Derek Meyer, wife Ashley and three great nieces, Audrey, Zoey and Gracie of Kearney, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

A private Graveside Service for immediate family and friends will be held at Yankee Hill Cemetery in Lincoln on October 28th at 10:30 am.

Memorials can be sent to the Capital Humane Society, 2320 Park Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68502.
