Obituary

Douglas John Gable

December 18, 1968 - December 21, 2023

Douglas “Doug” John Gable, 55, of Lincoln, went to his Heavenly home on December 21st, 2023, in Waverly where he grew up and at the farm that he dearly loved.

Doug was born in Lincoln on December 18th, 1968, to Richard and Carolyn (Kroese) Gable. Doug attended Waverly schools and graduated in 1987. In school, he was a member of Waverly F.F.A. where he participated in the junior Parli Pro Team and did livestock judging and showed sheep. Doug met his wife Jami while in high school at an arcade in Lincoln. They later married and had one daughter, Mercedes, to complete their family. Family was the most important thing to Doug.

Doug was an avid hunter, both gun & bow. He got his trophy buck on the acreage where they lived.

Doug played alongside his brother in the same pool league; they grew up learning how to play on a table in the basement. They both strived to be better than their dad and to beat him.

Doug and Jami owned Rock Creek Refuse and had worked side by side for years and still their love endured.

Doug is survived by his wife Jami Gable, daughter Mercedes Gable and Michael Ratute of Colorado Springs, CO. Mother Carolyn Gable, niece Brianna Gable and Nick Abbott, aunts Nancy Kroese, Linda Fox, both of Lincoln, Pat Gable of Denver, CO. Uncle and Aunt Ken and Sue Kroese of Waverly, mother-in-law Joan Flynn, sister and brother-in-law Jodi and Chuck Rethmeier, many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family Bob, Kay, and Brooke Larsen, and a herd of wonderful friends.

Preceded in death by father Richard Gable, brother Darin Gable, Cousin Dave Kroese, father-in-law Jerry Flynn. Grandparents Herman and Opal Kroese, Jim and Rose Gable, step grandmother Dorothy Gable, Aunt Dorianne Gable, and uncles Eldon and Bill Kroese.

Jami, I’m so sorry to hear about Doug. I really enjoyed knowing both of you and was always amazed by your hunting skills. God’s blessings with you during this difficult time.

It is Really hard to pick one memory of Doug cause ever memory I had with Doug was very special he wasn’t very open to people but if he let you in you were in the the duration,he brings the best out of people, it was always easy to talk over Doug. But, like you and I know we only talked over him cause he was right about the situation. He was a very knowledgeable man, and he always seemed to amaze me with every I encounter. I am so proud and very grateful I was able to have him in my life. He will always be with me through the knowledge, courage, and the “never give up” attitude that he instilled in me; and For that Doug, My Brother, I can hold my head up high and say “ROCK ON”! I LOVE YOU DOUG and the pleasure was purely all mine… you will be missed but never forgotten. God Bless.
