Dorothy (Van Ampting) Pokorny, 74 yrs., of Lincoln, NE went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 18, 2010 following a long courageous 13 yr. battle with cancer. She was born the youngest of seven children on June 10, 1935 to Anton and Dora Van Ampting in Bellwood, NE. She graduated from Columbus High School and worked at BD in Columbus. Dorothy was united in marriage to Alan Pokorny on August 30, 1956. Together they raised three daughters, Kathy, Diane, and Lori in Lincoln. She has been a member of St. John’s Catholic Church since 1962. Member of Legion of Mary & Alter Society. She enjoyed collecting Dutch blue delft, cooking, baking, knitting, embroidering, traveling & Sudoku puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed her eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will always be remembered for her great cooking and making the holidays so special.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Francis. Survivors include husband, Alan Pokorny of Lincoln, daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jim Wesely of Milford, NE, Diane Santi of Lincoln, Lori and Mitch Leif of Utica, NE, grandchildren and spouses, Jeremy and Stephanie Wesely of Hastings, NE, Sister Mary Faustina (Kendra) Wesely, CK of Lincoln, Joel and Melanie Wesely of Raymond, NE, Amber and Bryce Marker of Lincoln, Melissa Gilliam of Lincoln, Miranda Leif and Brittany Leif of Lincoln, and Cassidy Leif of Utica, NE, two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Kaily Wesely of Raymond, NE , sisters, Mary Taylor of Tucson, AZ, Rose Marie and Paul Bruckner of Schuyler, NE, brothers, William Van Ampting of Wahoo, Paul and Gladys Van Ampting of Chalmette, LA, and Tony Van Ampting of Tucson, AZ.
Visitation 2-5 p.m. Friday January 22nd at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street, Lincoln. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday January 22nd at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Memorial mass of Christian burial 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 23rd at St. John’s Catholic Church,7601 Vine St, Lincoln, with Fr. Lyle Johnson officiating and Fr. Lee Jirovsky co-celebrating. Burial at Wyuka Cemetery.
