Donald R. Steiner, Lincoln, NE, died April 13, 2021 at the age of 92. Born Olympia, WA, March 23, 1929, to Gilbert and Dorothy Steiner.
Graduated from Olympia High School, 1947. Served in the US Navy (1947-50), US Navy Reserve (1950-58), Oregon National Guard (Chaplain – 1959-64), Air Force Reserve (Chaplain – 1969-86), and retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1986 (Chaplain, LTC). Received the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award (Air Force), Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and an Admiralship in the Nebraska Navy.
Graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL, 1954, BA degree. Graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (Presbyterian Church USA), 1958, Master of Divinity degree; ordained as a Presbyterian minister of the Word and Sacrament, 1958; retired in 1991. Served congregations in Pennsylvania, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska; was a staff member, Presbytery of South Dakota (Associate Executive, Camp, Conference and Retreat); and Presbytery of Homestead (Nebraska) as Stated Clerk for nine years.
While serving the Presbytery of Homestead he received the Robert Giles Outstanding Presbyterian of the Year Award, presented by Homestead; the Outstanding Retired Presbyterian Annual Award by the national office of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.); and upon his retirement from the office of Stated Clerk was awarded the distinguished office of Stated Clerk Emeritus, Homestead Presbytery (Lincoln, NE).
Organizations in which membership was held throughout the years: Kiwanis, Reserve Officers Association, American Legion, Pi Alpha Nu (honorary music fraternity).
Survivors include wife, Deila; son, David and Lesley Steiner (Roseburg, OR); daughters, Renee (Auburn, WA), and Lisa and Kevin Beaber (Ordway, CO); three stepsons: Justin Brady and Alycia (Lincoln, NE); Dillon and Kerrie Brady (Magnolia, TX); Cullen Brady and Michael Scott (Bainbridge Island, WA); seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marlene Leicht and son in law, William Pasich.
A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Friday (4-16-21) at First Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D. St., Lincoln. Cremation/No visitation. Face coverings and social distancing required.
