Donald L. “Pete” Peterson, 70, of Lincoln, passed away January 27, 2019. Born March 1, 1948 in Aurora, NE to LaVerne “Pete” and Betty (Wert) Peterson. Pete grew up in York, NE, graduating from York High School in 1966.
He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for one year before transferring to University of Nebraska Kearney where he earned his B.A. in Education in 1970 and his M.S. in Education in 1976.
Pete married Kris Zender on May 3, 1985 in Wilber, Nebraska. He taught school at York St. Joseph’s school in Cozad and Harrison, and was a longtime claims adjuster for Farmer’s Mutual, Allied Group and then as an independent.
Pete activities included hunting and shooting sports, playing his trombone in high school, college, and in various musical groups over the years including the York Legion Drum and Bugle Corp and the Wilber Alumnae Band. He also enjoyed family genealogy and working crossword puzzles.
He was a life and endowment member of NRA, The Wintrop Society, and a 46 year member of the York Elks.
Survived by his wife Kris; brother Robert, Phoenix; nephew Greg Peterson, Denver; niece Jenny (Matt) Dageforde, Lincoln; uncle John (Elaine) Wert, Lincoln; grandnieces and nephews, cousins; Kris’s sister, sister-in-law, nephews and their families. Preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Sally (Shaw) Peterson.
Per Don’s wishes, no service or visitation. Cremation with private inurnment in the David City Cemetery at a later date.

Family and friends may gather to share stories and celebrate Don’s life at an open house on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 2-5 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (40th & Yankee Hill Rd).
