Obituary

David Lane Norton Goss

July 20, 1937 - August 14, 2024

David Lane Norton Goss, 87 of Lincoln, NE passed away at his home on August 14, 2024. Dave was born on July 20, 1937 in Boston Massachusetts.

During his early life he gained a younger brother, George Jr. , and lost his father, George Sr. in WWII. Eventually his mother, Florence, moved the family to Texas where she met and married Dean Isaacs who became the boys’ role model and father.
After earning his PhD in Physics from the University of Texas, Dave came to Lincoln, NE to begin his teaching career at Nebraska Wesleyan. He taught there for over 40 years. His scientific curiosity led him to many new areas of study. He earned an MS in Geology from UNL in the early 2000s to further his ability to teach courses incorporating earth sciences for his students.

Dave met Lois in the choir at First UMC in Lincoln and they married on June 16, 1990. In December of 2003 the couple adopted their son Alex.

Throughout his life, Dave was a good hearted person who thought before he spoke, always was ready to help others, and encouraged those around him. He was an inspiring example of integrity, intellectual curiosity, and generosity. Even as dementia took away so much of his intellect and abilities he remained gracious, kind and focused on those he loved. He is and will always be missed.

A Celebration of David’s life will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 3:00pm at First United Methodist Church, 2723 N. 50th St, Lincoln, NE.

Dr Dave was always there for me as a Physics major and helped me launch my career. He always encouraged me to follow my gut when I needed advice and there was no real answer until I tried something new. I graduated in 1980 from Wesleyan and stayed in touch with him until his retirement in 2010. He is always in my thoughts.
