She was brought into the Lord’s family through Holy Baptism on October 2, 1927, and was confirmed on April 27, 1941, both at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bremen, KS. Her confirmation verse was John 10:27-28.
On October 19, 1947, Darlene was united in marriage to Orville E. Holle at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bremen, KS. This union was blessed with five daughters, Patricia, Peggy, Deborah, Sharon, and Charlene. Darlene and Orville farmed in the Herkimer and Hanover, KS, communities until 1956, when they moved to Lincoln, NE. They were married 46 years.
Darlene was an Avon sales rep. for 15 years. Later she worked for, and retired from, Ameritas Life Insurance Company in 1992. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE, since 1962. There she participated in the Sonrise Singers, Women’s Bible Class, and nursing home visitations. She also volunteered for Lutheran Family Services making many hospital visitations. She loved and enjoyed her family, friends, listening to hymns, gardening, and reading.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband Orville, daughter Sharon Schoenleber, son-in-law John Novak, infant sister, brother, and parents. Darlene is survived by: daughters and sons-in-law Patricia Novak, Peggy (Don) Olson, Deborah (Gary) Pickering, and Charlene (Michael) Boettcher, all of Lincoln, NE; 12 grandchildren Toby and Tammy Chapman, Christopher (Katherine) Olson, Jennifer (Leo) Haynes, Dr. Jonathan (Stacey) Olson, Kendra (Joel) Johnson, Stacy (Dan) Benson, Michael (Rosalie) Schoenleber, Eric (Emily) Schoenleber, Jared (Carley) Boettcher, Melissa (Douglas) Kansier, and Kelly Boettcher; 30 great-grandchildren Cody, Kayla, and Kelsi Chapman; Michael (friend Ali Spatz), Joshua, Adam, and Rebecca Olson; Sailor and Moby Hyatt, Sonia and L.J. Haynes; Ethan and Layla Olson; Makenna Pickering, Allison and Madison Benson, Valana Ruiz; Vaughn and Brielle Schoenleber; Gray, Carter, and Elizabeth Schoenleber; Devin, Clayton, Addison, Easton and Raegan Boettcher; Elle Kansier; Brooklynn Boettcher and Alexis Ocker; 1 great-great-grandson Michael Olson, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Visitation at Roper and Sons Funeral Home – South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, with family greeting friends. Funeral services will be held at Christ Lincoln, 44th & Sumner, Lincoln, NE at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21. Burial at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to The Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Family Services, Haiti Lutheran Mission Society, or Food Bank of Lincoln.
