Darlene J. Nyffeler Schroeder

August 13, 1932 - March 20, 2025

Darlene J. Nyffeler Schroeder, age 92, died on March 20, 2025 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born on August 13, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska. Her parents were Hazel Born and Ted Nyffeler.

She grew up on a family farm outside of Duncan, Nebraska. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1950 and moved to Omaha, Nebraska to attend the Commercial Extension School of Commerce where she graduated in 1951. After working in Omaha, she moved to rural Walton, Nebraska when she married Wayne Schroeder in 1953. They were living on the farm when her three sons were born. In 1964 she and Wayne bought a house in Lincoln so that their sons could attend Lincoln schools. During those years, she, Wayne, and their sons commuted daily between their home in Lincoln and the farm. When her children were grown, she and Wayne expanded their farming operation and moved back to the country on a farm in rural Eagle, Nebraska (in Lancaster County) until Wayne’s death in 2015, when she moved to Eastmont, in Lincoln.

Darlene was a lifelong farm wife and homemaker. She taught knitting and crochet lessons from her home in Lincoln and later became a self-employed professional wallpaper hanger in the Lincoln area. She was a long-time member of TOPS in Lincoln.

Darlene is survived by her sons Ron (Denise Christensen of Kearney, Nebraska) Schroeder of Lincoln and Ted (Karen) Schroeder of Riley, Kansas; grandchildren Chris (Judi) Schroeder of Walton, Allen (Hillary) Schroeder of Eagle, Taylor Schroeder of Riley, and Mariah Schroeder of Riley; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Margaret Nyffeler of Columbus.
