Obituary

Dale Daniel Joseph Vanderford

April 2, 1968 - July 2, 2022

Dale Daniel Joseph Vanderford, 54, of Murdock, entered into eternal rest to be with his dad and other relatives and friends on July 2, 2022. He was born on April 2, 1968 to Dale Sr. and Rosalyn (Miller) Vanderford.

Dale attended grade school and high school, and graduated from Murdock High School. He continued his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a major in Agronomy. Dale played the tuba in the Cornhusker Marching Band during his time at UNL.

After graduation, he did some farming. Then, he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He dedicated himself to that work, and truly enjoyed it.

Dale was hired to help with the Elmwood/Murdock band, and loved to play in the band at ball games with the kids. He started a local chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and also directed the Murdock Museum. Dale was courageous, and fought cancer to the end.

Dale is survived by his mother Rosalyn, brother Jon and wife Taryn, nephew and niece Jacob and Olivia Vanderford, uncle Elmer H. Miller (Janice), cousin Marcia Miller (Mark), aunt Anita Webster, cousins Rhonda Chomos (Sandor), Debbie Denney (Dennis), Jeff Ahl (Jane), Barb Nelson (Dennis), Myrna Bornemeier (Dan), and many more friends and relatives.

Dale loved his community, the town of Murdock, and he was always proud to put on events for everyone to enjoy.  He took pride in performing in a special Blues Brothers band with his brother, Jon.

I sang barbershop in the Lincoln Continental Chorus with Dale and his brother Jon back when they were in college. Dale always had a song in his heart and a smile on his face.

I never actually got to meet Dale. I graduated from MHS in 1970 when his mom and dad taught there. I was “introduced” to Dale years later on Facebook. He always answered my questions about Murdock as we moved to Las Vegas. I was so proud that I was able to send him a couple of items from my parents “Knapp’s Cafe” to be placed in the Murdock Museum. I was so hoping he could have beaten his cancer. The Lord must really need him in Heaven, otherwise I will never understand why he took him so soon. I will always miss you my Facebook friend. Godspeed.

So very sorry to hear the news about Dale. Played tuba with him at UNL and remember him as great, solid guy with a quiet, dry sense of humor. Keeping him and all the Vanderford family in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time.
