I am thankful to God for the ministry that Pastor Curt Lehman and his wife, Claudine had with Lincoln Berean on the corner of 17th & A Street. I attended as a young child with my Grandparents at first at their invitation; and from there God worked with my young life through wise and caring people that attended there. I came to understand the love and provision of God throughout my “long and winding road.” I am thankful to God for lovingly teaching me there as a child.

Claudine has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. Her leadership and care has been evident in the years since and I am so blessed to have called her a dear friend! She told me in her Christmas letter that it would be her last one. I spoke to her last in January and had a sweet, but, brief conversation with her. Her Christian love and the impact she made on my life, and probably thousands of others, will always stay with me! Well done, good and faithful servant. Rest in Jesus.

When the Schrader family moved to Lincoln in January of 1963, we visited the Berean Church, meeting at the YMCA. Meeting Curt, Claudine and the family, we knew we had found our church home. I believe Gracie, Dan, Laura, Tim, and Cindy were 2,4,6,8, and 10 yrs old. What fun we had! I’m certain Curt and Claudine heard those cherished words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” What an impact their decades of service and leadership had on thousands of people! I was disappointed to miss Curt’s funeral, hearing of it after the fact. I was determined to make it to Claudine’s but, as it turns out, Sheri and I will miss it by a week. We have obligations we cannot shirk in Scottsdale, but we are going to our KC home in a week. “Close but no cigar.” Curt and Claudine visited Suzanne and me in our Overland Park home years ago. We cherished that time together with our mutual friends, Glenn and Norma Adams. Sheri and I send our love and prayers to you all as you celebrate a life well lived. God bless you with joy as you contemplate the heritage you have and are passing along.

I’m a server a Bailey Pointe Assisted Living and Claudine was one of my favorite residents here. I specifically remember one of the first times I met her, she was upset that the vending machine was out of coke so I made sure to bring her one the next day and she was so thankful. We bonded over our love of having our nails done. I’m going to miss her so much.

Age 94! We kept up correspondence and Facebook posts. Her last letter around Christmas was to tell me how much I meant to her. I felt she was saying goodbye. She really was a spiritual mother and friend walking with me through tough, tough times. She insisted I start teaching the Bible and take a leadership role at Berean.
