Chol “John” William Dau Kot

January 1, 1996 - November 24, 2023

Chol William Dau Kot, often called John, was 27 years young and was born in South Sudan. He also lived in Egypt, Oregon, and eventually, called Nebraska home as a young child.

He began studying criminal justice at Central Community College in Columbus, Nebraska after high school. His daughter was his top priority, and he was a devoted father to her. He valued his family above everything else.
He was an avid boxer. Boxing and fitness were his passions and he won multiple boxing tournaments. He also enjoyed traveling. During one trip, he managed to complete the Manitou Incline Hike, which involves climbing over 2,000 steps. He was an intelligent young man who was loyal and protective of his family and friends. No matter where Chol went, his smile was contagious and would light up the room.

Chol unexpectedly passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 24, 2023.

He is preceded in death by his father Dau William Kot.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Achok, Teyoung; his daughter, Aailah Kot; his brother, Madit Kot, the father of Alual, Teyoung, Mading, Lual, Kuur, Isaiah, and Ayan; his brother, Kon Kot; his sister, Atong Kot, the mother of Zoey; his brother, Alear Kot; cousin, Adut, the mother of Joseph and Abuk.

Funeral service: 9:30 am Saturday, December 16, 2023, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 6001 A Street.

Visitation with family present from 4- 7 pm Friday, December 15, 2023, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
