Betty L. (Thormahlen) Hladky, of Lincoln, passed away on April 7, 2025, at home after a seven-year battle with lung cancer. She was born on August 11, 1952, to Walter and Lillie (Kastens) Thormahlen at Burr, Nebraska.
Betty graduated from Syracuse High School in 1970. She married Victor Hladky on December 7, 1974, at First Lutheran (North Branch) Church in rural Avoca. She worked for the State of Nebraska for 45 years at the Department of Economic Development, Governor’s Policy Research Office and the Administrative Services Budget Division.
Betty was active at church, serving on various committees and sewing and tying quilts with the Spirit of Hope “Piecemakers” Quilting group. She spent many hours at her sewing machine after she retired. Betty also volunteered at the Lutheran Food Pantry.
Betty is survived by her husband, Victor Hladky, of Lincoln; children Stacy (Tony) Spulak of Elkhorn and Justin (Brianne) Hladky of Lincoln; grandchildren Lillie and Slade Spulak, Payten and Parker Hladky; brother-in-law Robert Hladky of Kearney; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Marie and A.C. Serold.
Funeral service: 11:00 am Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street with reception to follow.
Burial will take place at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, 6800 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE. Following the service
Visitation will be Monday, April 14, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church Piecemakers, Lutheran Food Pantry, or Meals on Wheels.
