Betty “Bets” Jane Frederick, 72, of Lincoln, died September 25, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bets was born March 23, 1946 in St. Paul, Nebraska to Johnnie and Evelyn (Jares) Jensen. She graduated from Kearney High School and attended Kearney State College.
On August 22, 1965, Bets married Larry Frederick and for 53 years, they worked hard and played hard, enjoying all types of sports, music, theatre, art and traveling throughout the world.
For 15 years, Bets worked in finance, fundraising and operations for the Sheldon Art Association and Museum. She served on many boards of directors and volunteered for many organizations including PEO Chapter BR, Planned Parenthood, Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Lincoln Community Playhouse, UNL Art Department/Medici, Madonna Hospital gift shop, Beatrice Art Guild and the UNL Rebounders Club. For her community involvement, Bets was recognized with the Mayor’s Arts Award and by the UNL Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.
Bets enjoyed painting, gardening, cooking, entertaining and driving fast sports cars. She loved being a grandma.
Bets is survived by her husband Larry; daughter Kera (Johanna) Machmer Frederick and grandchildren Zoe and Ky; son Matthew (Clover) Frederick, and grandchildren, Ainsley and Cate. She is also survived by many relatives and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Church of the Holy Trinity, 6001 A St., with The Rev. Susanna DesMarais officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the service. A private family internment will be held at a later date.
