Benjamin Lee Rockemann

June 1, 1937 - December 1, 2013

Benjamin Lee Rockemann, 76, of Lincoln, died on (12-1-13). He was born on (6- 1-37) to William and Valiska (Meister) Rockemann at Blue Springs, Nebraska, the youngest of nine children. He was baptized on September 12, 1937 at Zion Evangelical Church, Blue Springs, Nebraska by Reverend F. F. Cook. On March 18, 1951, Ben was confirmed in the faith at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell, Nebraska by Reverend Armin C. Gottberg.

Ben graduated in May of 1956 from Odell Public Schools. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from high school. Ben was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was a rifle range instructor. After an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps, Ben was employed at Dempsters in Beatrice, Nebraska. Then he signed on with the Burlington Northern Railroad as a depot agent. On April 26, 1964, Ben was married to Theria Shellhorn at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Deshler, Nebraska by Reverend E. T. Bauman. To this union they were blessed with five children: Deanna, Paula, Wanda, Mark, and Marcia.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lincoln, and served his Lord as an elder, vice president, financial secretary, Lutheran Laymen’s League representative, Aid Association for Lutherans treasurer, and trustee in various Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations. He was also a member of the American Legion Post, Cordova, Nebraska.

Ben is survived by his wife, Theria, of almost 50 years, Lincoln; children Deanna and husband, Rev. David Feddern of Arkinson, Nebraska; Paula and husband, Gregg Champoux; Wanda and husband, Jeff Peterson; Mark Rockemann, Lincoln; and Marcia and husband, Shane Larson, Waverly; grandchildren Miranda and Kelby Feddern; Zachary and Ryan Champoux; Austin and Alexis Peterson; Ashley, Tristan, and Rachel Rockemann; Audrey Babock; Samantha, Rhett, and Wyatt Larsen; great grandsons, Donivan Turner and Michael Gregory; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rockemann, Beatrice; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Sole Shellhorn; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Valiska Rockemann; sisters Deloma and Harry Wiechmann, Delphine and Milton Essex, Doneta Rockemann; brothers Ralph Rockemann, Delmar Rockemann, Delbert Rockemann, Lorain and Rachael Rockemann, and Robert and Bernice Rockemann; father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Ruth Shellhorn; sisters-in law Darlene Duran and Waneta Lovell.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday (12-6-13) at Faith Lutheran Church, 8701 Adams Street, Lincoln, Nebraska with a receptions immediately following.

Committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park. Memorials to Faith Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Visitation beginning noon on Thursday with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street and one hour prior to service time at the church.
