My most sincere sympathy to the Bates family as Art has completed his earthly life. Art and Fran playing duets were unequaled in pure enjoyable listening. What great talent and genuine likeability! As he goes ahead to join Fran, it is clear that Art was the epitome of a gentleman and a scholar, a life well-lived, who has left his influence in my life. And he was from Carleton, like my dad!

I met Arthur and Fran only once when my late husband Roger wanted to meet his relative, Arthur. Roger’s father was Duane and I believe was the son of Walter J. We had a great visit and shortly after, we heard of Fran’s death. When Roger became ill, our communication with Arthur stopped but I will never forget the wonderful visit that the four of us had. Our son attended school at Kearney and knows Steve. Small world, isn’t it? Our deepest sympathy to Arthur’s family , may he continue enjoying his life of music and entertaining those around him. Jenice Bates and family, Rod, Jackie and Bob

We first met Art and Fran in 2005 when we purchased the property next door. They were two of the finest people we have ever known. We always loved their garden and they were always ready to share. Not only their garden produce but their friendship and their skills and much sought after gardening advice as well. We spent hours sitting on our deck listening to them practicing their pianos. It was such a pleasure and they sometimes invited neighbors in to share a meal and listen to their beautiful music. We’ve missed them since they moved from Eden Circle and will miss them even more now. There is no doubt much rejoicing in Heaven as Art and Fran are reunited there and the angel choirs will rejoice with their music.

To Art’s Family : My sincere sympathy to you as you grieve in these days for your dear loved one, Art. I am so grateful to have been invited into his and Fran’s life. Both of them were precious spirits, so grounded, intelligent and loving. In these last days I had the privilege of sitting next to him at Chimes practice. Always the consummate musician. And he was a faithful worshipper in the Landing worship community. He accompanied our singing for a long time and was such a gift! Whenever I am in a garden, I will remember them…so connected to God’s beautiful creation! Peace and comfort to your hearts. Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!
