Arthur Charles (Charlie) Gordon

March 18, 1922 - February 26, 2008

Arthur Charles (Charlie) Gordon, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 85, departed to his Eternal Home on Tuesday, Feb. 26, while in the loving presence of family members at The Monarch, Lincoln, NE.

Born in Lincoln, NE, on March 18, 1922. WWII U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran, serving his country with valor from 1944-45 as a B-17 bomber pilot in Europe. Graduate of Lincoln High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University. As member of the 1947 football team, was inducted into Nebraska Wesleyan University Hall of Fame. Lincoln Southeast High School algebra teacher (1955-85) and varsity baseball and reserve football coach, capturing five state baseball championships during his 25-year coaching career (1955-80). Member of the American Legion Post and Christ Lutheran Church, Lincoln, NE.

Survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Gordon (Loseke-Grotelueschen) of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law Randall Charles and Barbara Gordon of Falls Church, VA, son and daughter-in-law Michael Hugh and Mary Gordon of Lincoln, daughter Carol Lynn Gordon and her significant other, Steve Hardt, of Lincoln, and stepson Randall Grotelueschen of Lincoln; grandchildren Eric Gordon and wife, Leigh, of Lincoln, Kristin Gordon of Falls Church, VA, Alex Gordon and wife Jamie of Kansas City, MO, Brandon Gordon of Falls Church, VA, and Brett Gordon and Derek Gordon, both of Lincoln. Other survivors include nephew Bruce Young of Omaha, niece Sharon Young of Lincoln; sister-in-law Kathryn Leslie and husband, Jim, of Lincoln, brother-in-law Gene Reed of Rapid City, SD, sister-in-law Ruth Crawford of Lenexa, KS, stepsisters-in-law and spouses Mary Ann and Bob Waldon of League City, TX, Kathy and Dwayne Mueller of Cedar Falls, IA, and stepbrothers-in-law and spouses Leroy and Sylvia Loseke and Larry and Selma Loseke, all of Platte Center, NE, and Clifford and Shirley Loseke of Columbus, NE.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Maurine Gordon (who passed away Aug. 7, 1974); parents, Arthur C. and Lennie Gordon (Franklin); sister Margaret Young; father- and mother-in-law Hugh and Ruth Crawford; stepfather and mother-in-law Ernst and Klara Loseke; and stepmother-in-law Hilda Grotelueschen.

Service: A celebration of praise and thanksgiving for Charlie’s life will be conducted at Christ Lutheran Church at 4325 Sumner St., Lincoln, NE, on Monday, March 3 at 11 a.m.

Burial to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.

Visitation: Family will greet friends on Sunday, March 2 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Roper & Sons, 4300 O St., Lincoln.
