Arlene Lois (Bischoff) Shoemaker, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. She was born April 11, 1928, near Wauneta, Nebraska, to Henry and Lydia (Beckmann) Bischoff. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Wauneta. Arlene received her education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Wauneta High School and Central Business College in Denver, Colorado. She was united in marriage to Vernon W. Shoemaker, December 28, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with one son, Dirk.
The family lived at Wauneta and Palisade, Nebraska, and in 1966 moved to Lincoln, where they resided at the time of her death. Arlene was employed in Wauneta, Palisade, and in the Nebraska Legislature for several years. She and Vernon were members of Messiah Lutheran Church, where memorial services will be held. Arlene was a member of Elisabeth Circle at Messiah and the Altar Guild.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon, son Dirk, daughter-in-law Nancy; grandchildren Andrew and Kari; brother-in-law Wayne Shoemaker, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Elmer Bischoff, his wife, Leatha; Sister Esther Keiser, her husband William Keiser; brother Lorenz Bishchoff; niece Sharon Keiser, and great nephew Joel Nordhansen; father and mother-in-law Orval and Ruby Shoemaker; nephew Kelly and niece Kristy Nordhausen; and sisters-in-law Twyla Shoemaker and Avis Shoemaker. Arlene loved her family and friends.
Memorial services at 11:00 am, Monday (4-1-13) Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 S. 84th with Rev. John Kunze officiating. Private inurnment at Columbarium with family.
