Anne E. Bruce

October 31, 1941 - April 10, 2016

Anne E. Bruce passed away peacefully in her home in Lincoln on April 10, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on October 31, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa and spent her youth in Allen, Nebraska. She attended Wesleyan University and was a member of the class of 1963. After graduation, she taught in the Lincoln Public Schools for 35 years – teaching at Belmont Elementary, Randolph Elementary and Zeman Elementary. She is survived by her loving sons Eric Verhar and Michel Verhar (wife Christine); her grandchildren Emiline, Amelia and Peter Verhar; her brothers Roger Hutchings (wife Faye) and Bruce Hutchings (wife Ingrid), four nephews, a niece and many grandnephews and grandnieces. She will also be missed by a number of many dear friends, near and far.

She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Bruce, her parents Marion “Doc” Rubel and Allie Grace (nee Herrick) Hutchings, and her first husband Miklos J. Verhar.

While with us – Anne dearly loved her cats and birds (especially Bluebirds). She was an avid gardener – and truly enjoyed her flower beds. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, the N.E.A., N.S.E.A., L.E.A, and the Lincoln Garden Club.

The family would like to extend their immense gratitude to all of her friends who have given her such consistent support, love and care. They would also like to thank the aids and nurses from Home Care Assistance and Tabitha Hospice who took such good care of her during her transition.

Visitation hours will be at Roper & Sons, 4300 O St, Lincoln on Friday, April 15th from 6 to 8pm, and Saturday, April 16th from 1 to 2pm.

A 2pm memorial service and following reception will also be at Roper & Sons. A final tribute will be held at a later date in Allen, NE.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Anne’s honor to the Friendship Home of Lincoln (www.friendshiphome.org).
