Amy Susan Metzger

August 31, 1960 - December 28, 2022

Amy Susan Metzger, 62, of Lincoln passed away December 28, 2022. Born August 31, 1960, in Lincoln, NE to Cecil and Marilyn (McDonald) Metzger.

Amy retired as Assistant Director of IT Strategic Sourcing after more than 30 years working at the University of Nebraska. During her tenure she encouraged women to develop careers in computing sciences and Information Technology. Most recently, she was consulting for Colorado State University.

She found hope and peace through her faith and was a member of First-Plymouth Church.

She loved to travel. She and her beloved husband Curt Betts traveled with family and friends nationally and internationally.

Amy loved animals. Throughout the years working for Lincoln Children’s Zoo, the Wildlife Rescue League, as a docent at Henry Doorly Zoo, and was always outside walking with her loving dog Betsy.

Amy’s family was the center of her life. She loved her mother and three sisters Marcee, Julie, and Wendy dearly. Her sons were her pride and joy. Eric, a police officer with the Lincoln Police Department, and Bret, who works in Los Angeles, California in marketing and creating art. Her grandchildren Audrey, Alex, and Anthony in Lincoln and Ruby and Remi in Kansas City brought her constant delight.

Family members include her husband, Curt Betts; sons Eric Dlouhy (Jennifer Suhr) and Bret Dlouhy (Afroz Sajan); mother Marilyn “Mickey” Metzger; grandchildren Audrey, Alexander, and Anthony Dlouhy, Ruby and Remi Lee Thompson; siblings Marcee Metzger (Michael Dunkle), Julie (John) Rose, and Wendy Metzger, all of Lincoln; step-children Jessica (Ben) Thompson, Olathe, KS and Christopher Betts (Jenna Flatt), Grand Junction CO. Nieces and nephews: Emily Rose (Cesar Zuluaga), Andrew Rose, Elizabeth Rose (Matt Kudlacek), and Margery Dunkle (Phil Magistro). Great nieces and nephews: Avery Rose, Kylie, Mia and Jada Kudlacek and Leo Zuluaga. Amy also had an extended family of cousins and dear friends.

Amy was preceded in death by her father Cecil F. Metzger and aunt Janet Lesoing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First-Plymouth Church, 2000 D St. Lincoln NE. on January 6, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.
