Althea ‘Sue’ Blomgren, 89, of Lincoln, died April 23, 2013. She was born Althea Lois Nash in Moline, Illinois on December 5, 1923 to Anson Nash and Margaret (Hendricks) Nash. She was the fourth of five children. She grew up in Cambridge, Illinois. Althea adopted the nickname “Sue” while attending Cambridge High School. Sue graduated from High School in 1941 and attended Illinois State Normal University, graduating with a two-year teacher’s degree in 1943. Sue taught for 3 years in Wethersfield, Illinois and Cambridge, Illinois.
On August 17, 1946, Sue married Richard (Dick) Blomgren, also of Cambridge, who recently returned from the U.S. Army service in Italy. They moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where Dick went into the photography business. Sue taught one year at Norwood Park in Lincoln. After her two sons were born, Sue quit teaching and became involved with the schools, Scouts, Sunday School at First Presbyterian Church where she was also a Deacon and an Elder.
She was a member of Cosmo-Pals, Mrs. Jaycees, past-board member of the YMCA and Nebraska Art Association, a docent at Sheldon Art Gallery, and a member of the Lincoln Personnel Management Association. She was a 56 year member of P.E.O. Chapter BY. In 1965, Sue began teaching nursery school. In 1975, she started to work for Ben Simon & Sons as a salesperson and later as a personnel director. In January 1991, she retired. Sue was devoted to her family and friends, loved to travel and was an avid gardener.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her husband Richard Blomgren. She is survived by sons, Steve (Linda) Blomgren of Lincoln, Doug (Ann) Blomgren of Portland, OR, granddaughters, Maggie (Evan) Killeen of Lincoln, Angie (Dane) Todd of Atlanta, GA, and great-grandchildren, Finn and Neve Killeen of Lincoln.
Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday (4-27-13) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
