Alexander Hamilton, 81, passed away on January 29, 2025. Born on May 29, 1943, to Arthur and Doris Irene (Hetrick) Hamilton in Wilmar, CA, now part of Los Angeles. As a child, he moved to Nebraska with his mother and siblings. He lived in Plainview for 1 year and then moved to Wayne, where he attended Wayne Prep and Hahn High School. After graduating in 1961, he worked at Wayne State College cafeteria as a cook.
While working at the cafeteria, he met Kathleen Schuttler and they were married April 19, 1964. After Kathy got her degree, Al attended Wayne State College and their son, Charles, was born in 1968. In 1970, Al received a bachelor’s degree in biology. He taught science for 2 years in Lanai City, HI and biology for 3 years at McCook, NE. The family then moved to Omaha where Al attended pharmacy college and received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1979.
After graduating from Pharmacy college, he practiced pharmacy in Benkelman, NE for 1 year. The family moved to Humboldt, NE in 1980 where Al first worked at and then purchased the pharmacy, which he named Hamilton’s Pharmacy. Al owned and operated the pharmacy until 2000 when he sold it to Pamida Corporation. He worked for Pamida in Falls City and then as a relief pharmacist until he retired in 2010. In 2005, he moved to Lincoln with Kathy to be closer to Charles and his family.
Al enjoyed collecting coins, operating model trains, attending NASCAR races, and cheering for the Huskers
Alexander is survived by his wife Kathy of 60 years; son, Charles Hamilton (Erika); grandchildren Trinity Hamilton and Xavier Hamilton; sisters Alice Zimmerman and Arlene Christofferson; brother Harold Hamilton (Larysa); sister-in-law Janice Durant; brothers-in-law Dwaine Schuttler and James Gilbertson; and many beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Robert Christofferson; sisters-in-law Althea Gilbertson, Nila Schuttler, and Sharon Schuttler; brothers-in-law Richard Durant and Marlin Schuttler; and 2 nephews.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28, at 11:00AM at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church (8550 Pioneers Blvd. Lincoln, NE)
