Obituary

Michael Nisbett

March 24, 1947 - June 27, 2024

Michael was born in Chicago on March 24, 1947.  He attended grade school in Westchester, IL and high school in Janesville, WI.  After a couple years of college, he moved to Chicago and worked downtown at Rose Records, managing the store’s classical music section.  He completed college at Roosevelt University in Chicago, and then moved to Lincoln for graduate studies at the University of Nebraska where he earned a PHD in English Literature.  He was happy to make Lincoln his permanent home.

As a child, Michael studied ornithology and went bird watching in the nearby forest preserve.  He read voraciously and began his long immersion in classical music.  Throughout his life, he pursued various interests.  One was Nebraska weather records.  In his last years, he was fascinated with Tokyo and its transportation systems.

He enjoyed conversations with customers in his many years working at Russ’s Market.  After that, he lived and worked at Roger’s House Bed and Breakfast on B Street and loved welcoming guests to Lincoln.

Michael was a deeply observant Catholic and attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church before the pandemic and his failing health prevented him.  He was the dear brother of Robert (Evelyn), Janet, Susanne (Eric) Raynard, Andrea (Robert) VanderMolen, and Corrine (David) Denoon; the fond Uncle and Great Uncle of many nieces and nephews.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents, William Nisbett Jr. and Elaine (Mainzer), and by his brother Steven (Marian).

There will be a Memorial Service at 9:00am on Monday, July 8, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by internment at Calvary Cemetery.
