Joyce Marie Wescott

Joyce Marie Wescott, age 84, passed away at her home in Raymond, NE on December 3, 2018. She was born on July 31, 1934 in Ashland, NE to Paul and Carrie (Schuelke) Buckingham. Joyce attended High School in Ashland, NE and immediately started working which she loved dearly. She worked the majority of her life at the University Nebraska Lincoln (UNL) in food service; retiring once only to go back to work the following week. At UNL Joyce worked at the Student Union and Harper, Schram and Smith. Joyce loved talking with students every day, often easing freshman jitters for students.

Joyce’s hobbies included gardening, cooking, baking, Husker sports; especially football, volleyball and women’s basketball; dancing, dining out with friends; and reading cookbooks for the next great recipe. She was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church, Women’s Extension Club, Raymond Firefighter’s Auxiliary, Valparaiso American Legion Auxiliary and was a Lancaster County Fair volunteer.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 63 years John; daughters, Carrie (husband Ronald) Bouwens, Lincoln, NE and Nancy Wescott (husband Steve Ward), Omaha, NE; grandchildren Michelle (husband Evan) Vaughan, Omaha, NE and Benjamin (wife Chelsea) Bouwens, Lincoln, NE; great-grandchildren Claire Vaughan and Lexi and Levi Bouwens; sisters-in-law Dorothy (husband Gary) Ehlers, Raymond, NE and Marie Wescott, Adams, NE; nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceded in death by her parents; son Bruce; grandson Nicholas; Aunt and Uncle David and Ruth Parrott; brother-in-law Dale Wescott and sister-in-law LaVerne Jakoubek.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Roper and Son’s Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street with Pastor Rod Lyon officiating. Burial at Oak Creek Cemetery, 4330 Clark, Raymond, NE.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or Raymond Fire and Rescue.

Visitation with family present from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 5th at Roper and Son’s.
