Gary Leypoldt

Gary Leypoldt, 69, died at his home in Lincoln on May 4, 2018. Born in St. Paul, NE on March 26, 1949 to Woodrow and Dorothy (Hennings) Leypoldt, he was the 3rd of seven children. He has also lived in Ravenna, Crawford, Papillion, and Albion where his father was a Methodist pastor. In high school he excelled as a scholar and athlete. He was all- conference in football, graduated in the top ten of the class of 1967 and was voted “outstanding student” by the faculty of Albion High School. He was also President of the Nebraska Conference Methodist Youth in 1966-67.

In 1971 he received his degree from Nebraska Wesleyan and shortly thereafter went to work at the Nebraska Department of Social Services. He retired from that agency in 2001.

He was a favorite uncle to his 7 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews; sisters, Janice Dorr, Cathy Koch; brothers, Chuck, Doug, Steve, and Jim Leypoldt who survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.

Funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday (5-11-18) at First United Methodist Church, 2723 N 50th St., Lincoln, NE. Visitation with family greeting friends, Thursday (5-10-18) 6-8 p.m. at Roper & Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln. Cremation will follow services.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the family for future designation.
