Arlene Louise Sorensen

Arlene Louise Sorensen, 87, Lincoln passed away peacefully on May 1, 2019. Born March 26, 1932 in Lincoln, NE to Dewitt and Irene (Lewis) Barber. Co-founder of Lincoln Wholesale Florists from 1954 until retiring in 2007 after 53 years in business.

Arlene attended UNL and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She attended Grace Lutheran Church. She belonged to Lincoln Rotary Club #14, National Association of Women Business Owners, Lincoln Partnership for Economic Development, City of Lincoln Charter Revision Commission, member of the National Promoflor Council (Industry Promotion Board), and member of Star Venture and Community Congress in Lincoln.

Arlene served on many boards including the Board of Governors of Nebraska Wesleyan University, Board of Directors Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce, Boards of Directors Gateway Manor, Advisory Council for the Dept. of Horticulture at UNL, Board of Landscape Architects (Nebraska), past chair Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, past president of Lincoln Independent Business Association, Board of Directors Society of American Florists, Board and President of the Nebraska Florist Society, Board of Directors and President of the Wholesale Florists and Florists Suppliers of America. She received numerous awards and recognitions for all she did for the various organizations.

Family members include her son Lee (Ruth) Sorensen; daughter-in-law Christina Sorensen; grandchildren Ashley (Chase) Frerichs and Jeremy Sorensen; sister Betty Maun, all of Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents; husband Harold H. and son Bert A. Sorensen.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (5-7-19) Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (40th & Yankee Hill Rd).

Family will greet friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel.
