Reed Louis Schwartz, 47, of Lincoln, passed away at home on June 8, 2016. Born June 2, 1969 in Falls City, Nebraska to Henry Peter Louis and Marcia Ann (Hinton) Schwartz. Served as 1st Lt. in the U. S. Navy. Reed was a school teacher and coach for Ashland-Greenwood High School from 1998-2016. A member of Messiah Lutheran Church, UNL Alumni Association and Sigma Chi fraternity.
Reed graduated Falls City High 1987. Reed pledged Sigma Chi Fraternity during his freshmen year at the University of Nebraska where he was also a member of the University of Nebraska ROTC. Reed graduated with a Bachelor of Arts December 1991. He became a commissioned Officer of the United States Navy that same afternoon on the military science building in the presence of friends and family. Reed qualified surface warfare officer August 1993. He then was certified in defense mapping and charting 15th of March 1994.
Reed and Deborah Schwartz were married October 7, 1994. Reed resigned from his service in the United States Navy, and earned his teachers certificate to teach secondary education in September of 1998. Reed became a teacher at Ashland-Greenwood High in Social Studies and Geography in August of 1998. At the time he added Varsity Offensive and Defensive like 1998-2014.
In august of 2000 Reed and his wife Deborah welcomed Lucinda Jane into the Schwartz family. With the importance of faith for his family and his battle with brain cancer earlier in 2000 Reed and his brother Lance joined Messiah Lutheran Church with Bi-weekly visits to his wife’s Orthodox church. Reed spent his spring season on the track as Head Coach of Boys Track 2000-2016. Reed began coaching middle school football 2014-2016.
Reed spent his summers studying and taking classes to achieve his Masters of Education in September 2009. Reed continued to take classes in the summer working towards additional Masters courses towards administration.
Family members include his wife, Deborah Jean (Javorsky) Schwartz; daughter, Lucinda Jane Schwartz; brother, Lance Schwartz, all of Lincoln and his parents Henry and Marcia Schwartz of Falls City, NE.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday (6-13-16) Messiah Lutheran Church, 1800 South 84th Street with Pastor John Kunze officiating.
Visitation: 2-8 p.m. Sunday with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street and one hour prior to service time at the church.
