Mary Elizabeth (Walters) Reed

October 30, 1938 - September 29, 2013

Mary Elizabeth (Walters) Reed, 74, passed away on Sunday, September 29th, 2013 at her home, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born on October 30th, 1938 in Lincoln to Merlin and Elizabeth (Bell) Walters.

Mary and Lee served as Presbyterian Missionaries in Greece and Pakistan for 22 years. Following her return to Lincoln, she directed the Calvert Senior Center. She retired in 2005.

Mary married Lee Reed on October 30, 1960 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were happily married for 52 years. Mary was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed family, music, traveling, gardening, sewing and knitting. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Ralph Reed. She is survived by her husband Lee; daughters Susan (Rich) Gifford of Scottsbluff, NE, Marika (Timonthy) Crosby of TX, and Carol Reed (Dan McMahill) of Woodstock, GA; sister Jean (John) Dale, of Wayne and Lincoln, NE, sisters-in-law Christine Reed, Ruth Anne (Ron) Ries, brother-in-law Robert Reed; grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 at Bethany Christian Church, 66th and Aylesworth. The family will be greeting friends and relatives on Friday, Oct. 4, from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Roper & Sons Funeral Home.
