Len Schropfer was born on the family farm near Milligan, Nebraska to Josie and Gus Schropfer on May 27, 1937. He died at Bryan Memorial in Lincoln from heart-related causes on January 23, 2017. He was 79 years old. Len graduated from high school in Ohiowa, Nebraska in the ‘50s and went on to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. While at the University he participated in ROTC. After that he served in Korea at the time of the Korean conflict.
Returning to civilian life, he pursued an acting career with modest success in San Francisco. Connecticut and New York City. He became a member of several acting groups and at one time had a part in the Jackie Gleason TV show. He enjoyed the theatre experience and the friends he made there very much. In the ‘80s his parent’s failing health prompted him to move back to the farm to assist them. He remained on the farm after their deaths.
He was an enthusiastic activist for several causes, some of them unpopular. He was especially passionate about legalization of marijuana and its uses in all its forms. He is survived by his sister, Jean Molde (husband Don) of Reno and five nieces: Kathy Hudson, (husband Mike) of Belvidere, Judy Schweer (husband Lewis) of Beatrice, Debbie Theye (husband Bob) of Geneva, Tammy Hoffman of Hebron, and Janie Schropfer of Geneva. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Max and Dale Schropfer and his niece, Shari Westwood (husband John) of Ohiowa.
Len asked to be cremated and that there be no services.
