Dr. Susan K. Powers Alexander, 61, Lincoln, passed away January 6, 2017. Born July 18, 1955 in Frankfort on Main, Germany to Ronald Ried and LaDona Ann (Schaulis) Powers. Graduate of UNL with a Ph.D in Psychology . She met her husband B. Lynn Alexander while working at the Nebraska Book Store. They were married on June 26, 1976.
Susan dedicated 30 years of her professional career to developing the Education and Training program of Planned Parenthood of Lincoln, ultimately becoming the Director of Education and Training. She taught at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, served on the Board of Directors of Child Guidance, was a staff member of the Nebraska Scholars Institute from 1983-2000, president of the Lincoln Junior League, member of Alpha Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Susan co-created the Lincoln/Lancaster teen pregnancy prevention coalition in 1987, and co-wrote in 1989 Woods Charitable Fund grant.
Preceded in death by her husband, B. Lynn Alexander and father, Ronald Powers. Survived by mother, Ann Powers of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Alexander and Michael Cochnar, Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Ophelia Lynn Cochnar.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. prior burial in Wyuka Cemetery, 3600 ‘O’ Street. Please meet at the ‘O’ Street entrance.
Memorial Service: 3:30 pm Monday (1-9-17) Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd. with Rev. Dr. Andrew McDonald officiating.
