Marilyn K. “Mem” McConnell, 78, Lincoln, died Wednesday (10-27-10). She was born on May 26, 1932 to Hugh and Faye (Wheeler) Knight in Carroll, Iowa.
Mem grew up in Elk Horn, Iowa, and graduated from high school in Prairie City, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University and graduated from the UNMC School of Nursing in 1954. She worked as both a surgical and office nurse in Lincoln. Marilyn and her husband traveled extensively to such destinations as Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, France, Central America, New Zealand, Australia, and the Soviet Union. Numerous trips to the Caribbean enhanced her enjoyment of swimming, sailing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Mem became a skilled potter and for many years enjoyed the camaraderie of other artists at the Burkholder Project in the Haymarket. She enjoyed the fine arts and nurtured an extensive collection of art and house plants.
Mem is survived by her husband of 55 years, Campbell; daughter Lauren Davis, Lincoln; son Curtis and daughter-in-law Carolyn McConnell, rural Denton; daughter Elizabeth McConnell, Leverett, MA; grandchildren Holly and Ben Davis and Aiyana and Mariah McConnell-Beepath.
