Elizabeth J. MacRae, 84, widow of Gordon MacRae passed away on September 7 2010 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born in Davenport, Nebraska on December 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Effie and Eugene Lambert. She was oldest of six children, and from an early age, developed a love of nurturing her siblings. She graduated from Pawnee City High School in 1943.
Liz possessed a spirit of adventure and left Nebraska at an early age to see the world. Though her travels took her many places, It was in New York City where she met and married the love of her life, Gordon. Their daughter, Amanda Mercedes, was born of their union in 1968. Her strong family ties ultimately drew her back to Nebraska in 1980 where she made Lincoln her home.
So many things could be said of Liz, who lived bigger than life. She loved art, music, and poetry. She had something to say about everything and loved sharing the many amazing stories of her life. She appreciated the little things in nature and adored her animals; Co-Co, Ruffie, Barley and Kitters to name a few. But love of family was what set her heart aflame. Liz was devoted to her loved ones which also included a list of long time friends including Joan Furr and Ginny Parker, whom she treated as family. She cherished her only child Amanda and when grandson Dayton was born, Liz simply delighted in being a Grammy, and in her declining months, his presence was her joy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Amanda Daley, son-in-law, Lance Daley, and grandson, Dayton Gordon. She is also survived by sisters and brothers in law Mary and Charlie Curtin, Nancy and Hess Dyas, Joan and Bill McNally. Brothers and Sisters-in-law Steven and Karen Lambert and Jerry and Yvonne Lambert. Also surviving are step-daughter Heather MacRae of New York, and step-son Gar MacRae, and his wife, Emily, of Vashon Island, WA. In addition, Liz is survived by many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of long time friends, all of whom will mourn her loss and miss her friendship. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Gordon, step-daughter Meredeth MacRae, and step-son, Bruce MacRae.Elizabeth’s family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Independence House for their loving care and compassion.
Memorial Services will take place on Monday, September 13, 2010, at 1:00p.m. at Roper and Son’s Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
No visitation/Private Burial.
