Rev. James G. Goble

April 4, 1947 - October 9, 2024

Rev. James G. Goble, 77 of Lincoln, died at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha on Oct. 9, 2024. Jim was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended Hanover College in Indiana and then attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Following seminary, he spent a year in Scotland gaining practical pastoral experience. He was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church in 1973. He served congregations in New York and South Dakota. His final call was at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Lincoln where he served for 18 years. He was honorably retired in 2013.

Jim was active in the community in a variety of ways. He was an active member of the Kiwanis and was recognized for his 25 years by being honored with the Legion of Honor award in 2021. He actively worked for the inclusion of everyone in the Church, particularly focusing on those struggling with serious mental illness.

Jim was an avid reader and particularly loved the Harry Potter series. He also collected stamps and coins. He was proud of his Kentucky heritage and family legacy. He collected letters, photos and newspaper articles about his father’s service as a colonel in the Army during WWII.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years Rev. Janet Hoyt Goble, his parents James Ballard and Eleanor Elizabeth Gesner Goble, and various friends and family.

Jim is survived by several sisters-in-law and their children. Betty Clelland and her son Earl Clelland and family have been actively in contact with Jim and supplied welcome and needed support particularly during his retirement years. Jim is also survived by various friends and colleagues.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024 at 1 pm in the Roper & Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.

Memorials are suggested to the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska, the American Cancer Society or Kiwanis Club International.
