Allen was born in North Platte, NE, on July 27, 1935, to Esther and Bert Overcash. He fondly remembered North Platte and enjoyed traveling through the Nebraska Sandhills.
Allen graduated from the University of Nebraska (B.S., B.A.) in 1956. He was active in debate and a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Delta Sigma Rho. Allen married his wife Virginia in the summer of 1958. He graduated from Harvard University Law School in 1959.
Allen returned to Nebraska and pursued a successful career in law at Woods Aitken Law Firm with emphasis on construction and government contracts. His experience included representation of clients before courts and administrative agencies and participation in alternative dispute resolution proceedings. He was a published author on construction law and dispute topics.
Allen was a member of the Nebraska Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Bar Association Forum on Construction, the American Arbitration Association Panel of Arbitrators, and the American College of Construction Lawyers.
He was an adjunct professor of Construction Law and Construction Practice at the University of Nebraska College of Law.
Allen enjoyed playing golf, playing squash at the University Club, sailing, skiing, backpacking, horse/llama packing in Wyoming, wood working, and watching Nebraska football. He was always willing to help a friend or host a party.
His survivors include his wife, Virginia; daughter, Julie Overcash; son and daughter-in-law, James and Marcy Overcash; grandchildren and spouses Hudson Overcash and Alyssa Kuhn, Cooper and Brittany Overcash, Lauren Schrock, Mary-Catherine Overcash and Antony Justin, and Mathew Schrock; great-grandchildren Kate Overcash, and Hudson Overcash, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan Krueger Wadlow Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Nebraska Foundation (1010 Lincoln Mall, #300, Lincoln, NE 68508). Allen and Joan were college debate teammates and their families became lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be held at Hillcrest Country Club (9401 O Street, Lincoln, NE) on Thursday, September 19, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m. A presentation of comments and stories will begin at 4:30 p.m.
