Hattie Mae (Marshall) One Star was born on April 12th, 1946 in Hay Springs, NE. She was a proud member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in Rosebud, South Dakota. Born to Arthur Marshall Senior and Susan Little Soldier, she was the second of five children who survived into adulthood, with five siblings passing in childhood. Arthur’s earlier relationship brought six additional half-siblings into Hattie’s life.
Hattie spent many years as a secretary for various state offices but ended her career employed at the Indian Center, where her dedication and kindness touched the hearts of many in the community and continued to do so long after her time there. Known for her infectious laugh and humor, her warmth and generosity extended far beyond her professional role, reflecting a life devoted to others. Working wasn’t everything to Hattie Mae though. On March 21st, 1968, the light of Hattie’s life, Brooke Louise (Marshall) Nelson, was born. And the two shared a special connection marked by a joy and warmth that was visible to anyone looking in. They were an inseparable pair whose plans ranged from sitting around the dinner table laughing all night to cherished camping trips at the lake. Following Brooke’s passing in 2007, Hattie put all her effort into caring for her family by continuing to watch over her grandsons, Dakota and Avery Nelson. She cherished all her time spent with her friends and family. During later years, she enjoyed daily strolls through the halls of Madonna, where she often visited with her honorary granddaughter, Tiffany Martinez.
Hattie is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Marshall Sr and Susan Little Soldier; her daughter Brooke Nelson; her siblings Adeline Bracha, Willard Marshall, and Linda Lurz; and her half siblings Adam, Arthur Jr, Lawrence, and Garfield, Veronica, and Grace. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Richard John Marshall; two grandsons Dakota Nelson (Olivia West) and Avery Nelson (Madyson Sykora); her great-grandson Braxton Nelson; and her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to invite everyone who knew and loved Hattie to the Celebration of Life which will be held at the Indian Center Inc. (1100 Military Rd, Lincoln, Ne 68508) on September 1st at 11am. Please join in honoring her everlasting memory in our hearts.
