Michael grew up in Waupun, Wisconsin. After graduating high school, he attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He then enlisted and served in the U. S. Air Force as a Meteorologist. The Air Force brought him to Nebraska, where he remained. He was married to Merry Salsman on April 14, 1979. They soon made their home in Lincoln. There, he enjoyed a career as a computer programmer/network administrator for various companies until he retired. Post-retirement, his love for animals drew him to part-time work at the Kenl Inn as a pet care attendant, walking and caring for dogs until his declining health jumpstarted his second retirement. Undeterred, Michael was an avid golfer, and you could often find him on the golf course, rain or shine. He was a devoted member of the First Free Church, which he served for many years. The church was his tribe and his people. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren, and he let everyone know.
Left to cherish his memory, family members include his wife Merry; daughter Kaitlyn Zoellner; son Michael (Abby) Zoellner, and daughter Jennifer (Jack) Williams; grandchildren Molly, Charlie, Finn, Clara, Tatiana, and Evan; great-grandchildren Sebastian, Hezekiah, Milana; sisters Phyllis (Erv) Passow and Kathy Mason; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Nyback, and brothers-in-law Bill Nyback, and Brad Mason.
