Obituary

Jane E. Davidson

March 3, 1920 - October 30, 2010

Jane E. Davidson, 90, widow of John F. ‘Doc’ Davidson, died Saturday (10/30/10), at the Country House Residences, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born March 3, 1920, in Rossland, BC, Canada, to Alexander and Helen Mary (Lewis) Cox. Jane earned a business degree at the University of British Columbia/Vancouver, and a master’s degree at the University of California/Berkeley. It was at Berkeley’s International House that she was courted by her future husband, John, a Canadian botanist. The couple moved to Lincoln in 1948, when John accepted a position at the University of Nebraska, and Jane took on the role of homemaker extraordinaire. In that capacity, Jane served as chief cook, bottle-washer, banker, chauffeur, gardener, and housekeeper to John and their growing family of eight children.

Selfless and giving, Jane supported her children and grandchildren through her presence and her involvement in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Faculty Wives, Little League, PTA, and, most especially, her church. She was a loyal and active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, especially its outreach committee, with rummage sales, bazaars and collections for the Food Pantry at St. Mark’s on the Campus. At age 90, she would say that her life had indeed been blessed: Although she resisted taking personal credit, Jane was immeasurably proud of her eight children and their children, who, in turn, marvel and give thanks for the blessing that was their mother and Grannie.

Jane’s survivors include her children, Janet Davidson, Lincoln; Liz/Betty Davidson (Clark Hodder), Bellevue, WA; Doug (Mary/“Beth”) Davidson, Hemet, CA and Lincoln; Bob (Debbie) Davidson, Kirkland, WA; Pamela (Tim) Deffer, Springfield, MO; Mary Fuller, Lincoln; and Jim (Julia) Davidson, Hillsborough, CA; daughter-in-law Carolyn Davidson (Ft. Worth, TX); twenty-three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister Mary Ripley, New Milton, England. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edmund; her husband, John; and her son, John ‘Ed’ Davidson.

Services 10:30 a.m., Friday, (11/5/10), Church of the Holy Trinity, 6001 A Street, Lincoln, Fr. Sam Boman officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church or to the charity of your choice. The family invites friends to bring a non-perishable item for the Food Pantry to the service; Jane would approve.
