Obituary

Jerrie L. Michaelson

December 29, 1941 - May 13, 2024

Jerrie L. Michaelson, 82, of Lincoln passed away May 13, 2024. She was born December 29, 1941, in Lincoln, NE to Robert and Faye (Pickell) Bell.

Jerrie and John “Dan” Michaelson knew each other in high school, and both graduated from Lincoln Northeast in 1959, but a reintroduction though their brothers several years later is what led to their 1968 wedding. Dan was a 20-year Navy band master, and his career took them all over the country, but Jerrie always considered Lincoln her home.

Jerrie had many jobs during her lifetime, but the one most dear to her heart was at the V.A. Hospital working as an administrative assistant. While there, she made friendships that would follow her for the rest of her life. Many of those friendships were revived while attending Christ United Methodist Church in Lincoln.

Jerrie’s favorite hobby in retirement quickly became her grandchildren. She loved chauffeuring her grandchildren, traveling with her grandchildren, going to musicals with Kaitlyn, and eating ice cream with Isaac. Whenever one of her grandchildren had a school event, Jerrie was there.

Jerrie enjoyed traveling and went on many adventures with Dan and their son Geoff which usually resulted in some crazy stories, inciting lots of giggles. She also loved gardening and cooking. Jerrie never met a stranger – she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She was also a dedicated Cornhusker fan.

Family members include her son Geoff (Angela) Michaelson; grandchildren Kaitlyn and Isaac; brother Bob (Barbara) Bell; nieces and nephews Rae Jean (Scott) Proescholdbell, Scott (Karen) Bell, Dani (Sid) Staats, Mitch Michaelson, and Elaine (Dave) Drummer; great nieces and nephews Anderson, Zamaria, Vivienne, Josh, Rachel, Cassia, Kenna, J.J., Tommy, and Grant; numerous extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband John “Dan” Michaelson.

Memorial service: 10:30 am Saturday, June 1, 2024, Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 A Street. Interment will be at 1:30 pm at Wyuka Cemetery. Please meet at the ‘O’ street entrance.

Geoff, my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mom. It is so hard losing your mom. I worked with Jerrie at the VA and also rode the bus when we both worked downtown at the Federal Bldg. As you know your mom had a heart of gold. Both she and your father always supported and came to Destiny’s musicals and events at Northeast, I always thought that was so kind of them. She would even come get me to get me out of the house when I was going through chemo treatments. I know she is in the arms of Jesus and reunited with those that have gone on before her. I know you and your family will miss her and many will.

Geoff, Angela, Kaitlyn & Isaac, I’m so very sorry for your loss. Jerrie was one of the first smiles I met at CUMC. She was so friendly & loving. It was so obvious to everyone that her family was her whole world. Jerrie’s passing will leave this world a little less bright. Rest in peace, sweet lady.
