She graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to attend UNL until she married her high-school sweetheart, our father (Cecil) who joined the Army and was stationed in Maryland. She had such fond memories of that time in her life spent as a newly married couple. They went on to enjoy 54 wonderful years together.
The most important thing to our mother was her family. She had a wonderful childhood with parents, grand-parents, and extensive family that she loved very much. She cherished her sister Janet who was her best friend throughout her life.
Later came 4 daughters, Marcee, Julie, Amy and Wendy. Her family grew to include 3 sons-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mom loved all of them dearly.
After Dad passed, her dog Buddy became a wonderful companion to Mom.
Mom had a strong Christian faith and loved being a member and Deacon at First Plymouth Church.
Mom had many close friends who she kept in touch with her whole life. She continued to talk and get together with friends in Lincoln and across the country. She loved to travel – especially to their beloved cabin in Colorado, play bridge, attend the symphony, watch plays at the community play house, attend her PEO and Tuesday review gatherings.
Her community was very important to Mickey. In addition to a successful career as a real-estate agent she spent many years volunteering and serving on boards for different organizations, the most current include: LUX Art Center, Lincoln Symphony, Lincoln Community Playhouse, Lincoln General Hospital Auxiliary, Madonna and many others.
Mom was unfailingly kind and always believed in the good in people. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.
As a family we would love to acknowledge and thank all of the family, friends and caregivers who enriched her life to the end.
Family members include her daughters Marcee Metzger (Michael Dunkle), Julie Rose (John), and Wendy Metzger, all of Lincoln; son-in-law Curt Betts, grandchildren Emily Rose (Cesar Zuluaga), Andrew Rose, Elizabeth Kudlacek (Matt), Eric Dlouhy (Jennifer), Bret Dlouhy, Margery Dunkle, Jessica Thompson (Ben), and Chris Betts; 10 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents Charles and Margery McDonald, husband Cecil, daughter Amy, and sister Janet Lesoing.
