Jerry attended Park elementary school, Everett Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High in 1951. Forever a Link he met his future wife Miriam in high school. They married in San Antonio before his basic training in Texas for the US Air Force. The military couple moved around being stationed in Illinois, Montana, Alaska and California. After returning to Lincoln with Miriam he became an insurance agent and worked his way up the company ladder until he retired as a Regional Vice President for Sentry/Dairyland Insurance. His job took him to the Western states throughout his career but he loved being home in Lincoln and supporting the Husker football and volleyball teams. When he wasn’t working he was enjoying his hobbies, he loved tinkering with watches, hunting, fishing, and bargaining for a good deal anywhere there was one to be had. His favorite place to be was with his family but he had a love for adventure that took him to Canada for fishing and Mazatlan for relaxing sunsets and bargaining with the locals.
He is survived by his four daughters; Tracey Gabelman-Hart (Gary), Connie Gabelman, Nancy Gabelmen (Greg Iba), and Tobi Scaggs (Steven), grandchildren; Aly Hart Summerson (Nate), Michael Hart (Tony Guerrero), Gracie and Tatum Scaggs, and great grandchildren Layla, Miriam, and Hunter ‘Bubba” Summerson. Jerry leaves behind several nieces, nephews and close friends. Also survived by his four-legged children Cocoa, his cocker spaniel, and Lucy Gucci Ball Gabelman, his loving cat.
He was preceded in death by his wife Miriam (Wohlfarth), his mother, Eugenia (Resseguie) Gabelman who raised him and his father Jacob Gabelman. His sister Betty and her husband Bob Johnson, grandchildren Sam and Maddie Scaggs, and friends Kate and Jim, Bob and Annie.
