Sharon Kay (Johnson) Nicklas

March 8, 1951 - May 14, 2022

Sharon Kay (Johnson) Nicklas, age 71, of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 14, 2022. She was born March 8, 1951, in McCook, Nebraska, the second child of Marion and Retha (Nutt) Johnson.

Sharon grew up on the family farm along the Medicine Creek southeast of Curtis, Nebraska. She was part of the first graduating class of Medicine Valley High School in 1969. She graduated from Grand Island School of Business in 1970.

On June 7, 1970, Sharon married her best friend and love of her life, David Glenn Nicklas in Curtis. They were blessed with almost 52 years of marriage where they enjoyed spending time camping, sightseeing, holidays with family, gardening, planting flowers, remodeling their home, and welcoming anyone who stopped by. They were blessed with two children, Brian and DeAnn, and six grandchildren. Her heart’s desire was to be a wife, mom and grandma who faithfully modeled the love of Christ.

For over 42 years, Sharon provided in-home daycare where she loved and cared for over 100 children, joyfully serving the families that came into their home.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Marion and Retha Johnson and sister, Kathy Cole. She is survived by her husband, David Nicklas of Pleasant Dale; brother, Eldon (Vickie) Johnson of Minden; son, Brian (Clover) Nicklas of Curtis; daughter, DeAnn (Nicholas) Friendt of Lincoln; and grandchildren, Caleb (Alex) Friendt, Kaylee and Madison Friendt, all of Lincoln; Nathan, Noah and Josiah Nicklas, all of Curtis; and many more extended family and friends.

Share a Memory or Condolence

May 21, 2022

Dave, I am deeply sorry for your loss of Sharon. My sister, Nancy, saw the obit in the Lincoln paper and passed on to me. I will share with the Kuehn family of cousins. You and Sharon were so wonderful to join our last reunion at Platte River State Park and she kept in touch by email while my dad and her dad were struggling with health issues. My heartfelt sympathy to you and all your family.
