To the Ernst family—I was not aware that your mom had passed until a few days ago–I knew that she had been ill and of course fighting it all the way Way back in our days in Sidney our mother Esther baby sat you guys as we lived across the alley from each other—When Tom and Nancy moved to Lincoln we were able to get together on occasions for meals and memories. Your mom was always passionate about the Huskers and I always looked forward to seeing her a Nebraska baseball games along with you guys and your children. I am personally very sad about losing Nancy and of course Tom some years ago. My sister Tammi and I will certainly miss her Love to you all

Tell me this isn’t so. I’m truly grieving for you, the whole family, and for myself. Nancy meant the world to me and I am learning about this so late. Give yourselves hugs from me.

I have always been a huge fan. One of the last of an epoch touched by war, grounded in tradition yet open to the possibilities inherent in freedom. Confidence and common sense. There is an inscription above the north door of the Bascilica at Notre Dame (sorry Nancy to bring the Irish into this) “God, Country, Notre Dame”. She had her own list, I believe: God, family, friends, country, Lake Vermilion, Cornhuskers, the world. She has inspired a new generation to examine this profile, as she, and others like her, inspired me. RIP

What I remember the most about Nancy from the days we lived next door to her on Stratford. She was always interested in people, she loved her family, she loved her friends, she loved the Huskers, she loved supporting sports activities with her kids, she loved her husband and the lake house, she loved socializing and spending time at the club to name a few. Nancy loved her Lord and her life. We love her and will remember her.

Nancy was one of those special women who cared deeply and loved her family so much. I met Nancy and Tom right after Doug was born. My sister and brother in law, Mary Lou and Tim Carleton, lived across the hall from them in apartments. So many great memories. She was a gift to so many and I loved Nancy and Tom together. Rest In Peace dearest Nancy. You will be so missed by so many.

My first memory of Nancy was due to my mom, Marge Wilnes. Marge Wilnes lived on Stratford Street around the corner from Nancy. I don’t even know if I was born at that point. My mom was a delta gamma just like Nancy but mom is quite a bit older. My first introduction to Nancy and her family was when they lived on Winthrop Road. Mom introduced me to Nancy and told me that Nancy named all three of her children after my mom’s kids. My mom named her children, Jeff, Doug, Kim. I was astounded. And felt kind of privileged to have someone think enough of my mom and my family to name their children after Me and my brothers. Nancy will be missed, she was so loved. Blessings to the entire family and especially to the children, Jeff, Doug, and Kim. Love always, Kim

Nancy had a special gift to make you were feel important, to make you feel you mattered. My connection with the Ernst Family began with Doug, when we swam together at Southeast in 1979. Doug as a sophomore swimmer was outgoing, fun, gifted athletically, and friends with everyone (wonder who he got that those gifts from?). My friendship with Doug allowed me to meet Nancy and Tom who came to every swim meet & took it upon themselves to provide regular and heartfelt encouragement to each and every swimmer on the team. As the years went by, every time I saw Nancy she continued to to always say something that made you feel great. What a special woman.
