Robert Lee King, 90, of Lincoln, passed away September 13, 2021.
Born July 12, 1931. You were orphaned when you were young, but we never once heard you complain or exploit that you were a victim. You persevered, and today you are loved by your wife of 68 years, your four children, their spouses, your nine grandchildren, their spouses and your 16 great grandchildren. Your family was cut down, and you built it back up. That’s how we’ll remember you.
You stole a fire truck when you were a teen and earned yourself a one-way ticket on the next train out of town. You went on to serve in the US Navy and later you became District Fire Chief in Lincoln, NE. You were a man of great courage, and you had a soft spot for those in need. That’s how we’ll remember you.
You always lived life to the fullest. You found peace in rigorous training for a triathlon, and in the solitude of gardening. You loved animals, good stories and making people laugh with your perfectly timed crossed eyes. That’s how we’ll remember you.
You were sensitive to our weaknesses, but always pushed us to make our strengths stronger. You were loyal to your family, and we were always welcome at your table. That’s how we’ll remember you.
You were a Husker fan through and through. That’s how we’ll remember you.
In the eleventh hour, you bowed your knee and prayed the sinner’s prayer. You placed the life you held onto so tightly, your blood, sweat, and tears at the foot of the cross. We admire so many things about you, your perseverance, courage, devotion, loyalty, but above all we admire you for your humility on that day. That’s how we’ll remember you.
You will live forever in our hearts, until we meet again.
Long live the King.
