Obituary

Gregory Alan Teague

November 3, 1954 - August 7, 2021

Gregory Alan Teague

Gregory Alan Teague, age 66, passed away on August 7, 2021 in Mobile, AL. Born on November 3, 1954 in Omaha to Ted and Barbara (Leifert) Teague. Greg graduated Burke HS in 1973. He graduated UNL in 1984 and was a member of Chi Phi fraternity. Greg had attended UNO and studied in Colorado as he worked towards his degree. He met his wife (Dawn Dittrich) in 1983 while studying at the Cedar Point Biological station in Keith County, Nebraska. They married in 1984. To them three daughters were born; Celia Teague-Halos, North Carolina; Cassandra Teague, Lincoln; and Cherie Teague, Lincoln.

Greg was a registered sanitarian and member of the National Environmental Health Association. He was employed at several county health departments including: Douglas County Health Department (Nebraska), Clark County (Nevada), Mohave Co., Cochise Co., Gila Co., and Graham Co. (Arizona). While working in Arizona, Greg became ill and returned to Nebraska where he received a second chance at life through an organ donation at the University of Nebraska Med Center in Omaha.

Greg had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life. He enjoyed many hobbies — traveling, playing tennis, golfing, snow skiing, fishing, hunting, mountain climbing, camping, wood working, gardening, home building and remodeling. He loved NASCAR and NHRA. He attended many NHRA events throughout the country. He enjoyed cooking, making apple pies, and baklava. He was a master on the grill and known for his BBQs. He had a passion for all kinds of music and was an accomplished guitar player. Greg was a cat lover; he owned many cats over the years and spoiled them all. Greg surrounded himself with friends from all walks of life and different cultures. He enjoyed learning about other cultures and languages. Greg could communicate in German and Spanish and knew many Kurdish phrases.

Greg spent most of his last decade of life as a caregiver for his parents with help from his ex-wife Dawn. As his parents moved into skilled care, Greg moved south in seek of a warmer climate and final adventure. He made a new home in Mobile, AL where he desired for his family to visit to escape the harsh winters of Nebraska.

Greg is survived by his father, Ted Teague, his ex-wife, Dawn (Dittrich) Teague, his three daughters, granddaughters, Sophia Hunt, Las Vegas, NV, and Gina Sharping, Lincoln; two grandsons Eli Ryan and Leo Ryan, Lincoln, NE.

Greg liked nothing better than an interesting conversation with a good or new friend. He was approachable and could engage in conversation with anyone. He was enthusiastic in sharing his knowledge, if you had asked for it or not. Greg spoke vividly about his life experiences and was admired through his exciting storytelling.

Greg will be greatly missed by his family. He was a wealth of knowledge and always a phone call away to answer questions on any topic. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of everyone that knew him and will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

“Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.”

Rabindranath Tagore

I will miss my cousin Greg so so much. We always kept in contact with each other especially on November 3rd our birthdays are on the same day. We never missed a birthday not talking. He was my go to guy for information about the Teague family history. And anything else that crossed my mind. He will always be a part of my heart and memories. This is so sad.
