Christa Hildegard (Tschernig) Jones, 88, of Adams, NE passed away November 11, 2018. She was born on May 13, 1930 in Rossnitz, (Silesia) Germany. She came to the United States in May 1952 as a WWII, displaced, German refugee.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Anna (Thiele) Tschernig, brother, Karl Heinz Tschernig, and husband of 39 years, Charles Richard Jones.
Christa was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt and Oma to 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her two sisters, Ursula (and Peter) Ziegler of Dusslingen, Germany, and Helga Savage of Cape Cod, MA; as well as her four Children: Charles (and Kim) Jones of Coffeyville, KS; Ane (and Greg) Edwards of Firth, NE; Sheldon (and Julie) Jones of Enterprise, KS; and Cherie (and Jim) Skrivan of Omaha, NE.
Christa was a devoted member of the Enterprise Seventh-day Adventist Church, and beloved member of the Enterprise/Abilene, KS community. She will always be remembered for her volunteerism, greeting people for more than 15 years, at the Abilene Memorial Hospital information desk. She will also be remembered for her baking, cooking, quilting, crocheting, and serving her “neighbors” both locally and around the world—sending love, compassion and warmth to those in need—in the form of hand-crocheted scarves and hats.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 22, 2018, from 2:30-4:30pm, in the Court Yard at the Eisenhower Presidential Library, 200 SE 4th St Abilene, KS 67410.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Memorial Health System Volunteer Corps, Memorial Hospital, 511 NE 10th St., Abilene, KS 67410.
