Thomas “Thom” A. Shulde

Thomas “Thom” A. Shulde, 74, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at home surrounded in love on January 24, 2020. Born March 17,1945 in Wilkes Barre, PA to John E. and Margaret E. (Leach) Shulde.

Thom serviced in the U. S. Marine Corp from 1965-1971. He was a graduate of Wyoming, PA High School and received his BA in Psychology from Wilkes University. He retired as Corrections Case Manager for the Nebraska Dept. of Corrections. Formerly he had worked at the Florida Dept. of Corrections and Pennsylvania Dept. of Juvenile Justice.

Thom lived a rich life. He was an avid golfer and played rounds on some of world’s most renowned courses. His golf buddies were very important to him. He loved football, played the position of quarterback in high school and was a lifelong Eagles fan. He later became a fan of the Cornhuskers. He also played tennis in college and worked as a private tennis coach in PA. He briefly taught History and Social Studies in both PA and Fl but spent most of his career in juvenile and adult corrections. Thom was knowledgeable on many topics, and enjoyed discussing politics, history, philosophy and world events along with sports statistics. He moved to Lincoln in 1996 from Wyoming PA and married Nicole on Sept. 30, 2000 and was a devoted and loving husband and stepfather. During their marriage Nicole and Thom traveled as much as they could both alone and with the kids. They traveled to spend time with family in PA, CO and SD as well as their own special adventures from coast to coast. Thom loved his family and friends and could always be counted on for loving support, sound advice, a rational perspective or to simply be a quiet calming presence in the midst of chaos. He was handy and could fix, build, and remodel just about anything. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle including several trips to Sturgis. Thom relished time on the front porch, alone in thought, visiting with friends and neighbors, or making plans and discussing dreams with Nicole. Thom fought a courageous 3 year battle against cancer, rarely complaining and showing bravery and perseverance deserving of deep respect. He remained a stoic man and towards the end of his battle repeatedly stated that he felt no fear, no anger, only gratitude; gratitude for a life well lived with no regrets, great experiences and deeply felt love.

Family members include his loving wife Nicole; stepson Tyler Keller, Omaha; stepdaughter Andrea Keller, Lincoln; brother John (Jacqueline) Shulde, Wyoming, PA; several nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be Friday, February 7, 2020 from 4-6pm at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (SW corner of 40th & Yankee Hill Rd).

Memorials to the family for future designation.
