Shirley Ann (Pickering) Douglas was the daughter of Oscar and Esther (Boell) Pickering passed away on February 28, 2019 in Albion, NE. She was born on September 9, 1935 in Hickman, NE.
Shirley was baptized March 30, 1947 at Grace United Methodist Church in Lincoln, NE. She was active and a lifetime member of Southern Heights Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. She was active in the choir, the United Presbyterian Women’s group and quilting group.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, NE in 1953.
Shirley was united in marriage to George Richard Douglas on February 19,1954 at the College View Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, NE and just celebrated 65yrs of marriage.
Shirley worked for Farmers Mutual Ins. Co. from 1953-1955., church. custodian 1970-1973, and Carol Wright Sales 1981-retired May 2,1997.
She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Starcraft Chapter #307, Lincoln, NE and was Worthy Matron in 1985. Her hobbies include playing many instruments from church organ to bass guitar but her favorite was the fiddle made by her Great Uncle Henry Schwetger. She and her husband loved traveling to Blue Grass Festivals during the summer and playing with groups in Lincoln. She loved embroidering and hand quilting.
Survivors include her husband, George ofAlbion, five children, Richard and (Elena) Douglas of Cincinnati, OH, Elaine and (Ross) Hulse of Albion, NE, Michael Douglas of Bennet, NE, Dale Douglas of Milligan, NE, and David (Alison) Douglas of Lincoln, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, one sister Norma Hackbarth of DesMoines, Iowa, brother-in-law William Douglas of Hickman, NE, and sister-in-law Doris Pickering of Chico, CA, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Rachel Roark, Elva Cole, Ruth Roberts, Nancy Pickering (infant), Esther Pickering (infant), and two brothers, Orville Pickering and Raymond Pickering (infant).
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019, Southern Heights Presbyterian Church, 5750 S. 40th Street with Rev. Leanne Masters officiating. Burial in the College View Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers to Southern Heights Presbyterian Church Music Fund.
Visitation on Monday from 2-7 pm with family present from 5-7 pm at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
